These double houses were built in 1859 by James McClinchy, a miller, on the north-east corner of Dundas and Royal York. He lived with his sister Elizabeth in one half and rented the other. When electricity came to the area, the houses were moved slightly east. The arrival of the Guelph Suburban Railway in 1917 forced a seconnd move to the east end of Government Road.
