Lambton House was built by William Tyrrell around 1848 as a hotel, stagecoach stop, and business centre. The land on which it was built was originally owned by William Pearce Howland, who had mill offices just west of where the hotel stands.

The building continued to operate as a hotel and tavern until 1988. Afterwards, the building was restored.
