This Regency cottage, one of the last surviving examples of its kind in modern Toronto, was built for War of 1812 veteran William Moore. Its dates of construction vary by historical source: the City of Toronto Heritage Register puts it at circa 1840 while a Globe and Mail article from 2006 notes that various wings of the house were built between 1826 and 1835.
The Regency Style developed in the British Isles and its territories during the prince regency of the future King George IV from 1811 to 1820. Its popularity continued into the 1860s in Upper Canada. The style's hallmarks include single-storied rectangular buildings, hipped roofs, large windows, and centralized dormers.
