Originally known as Chester Baptist Church, the Sunday School was completed in 1911, designed by John Francis Brown. The main church building fronting onto Danforth Avenue, and known as 285-297 Danforth Avenue, was completed in 1931, one of the last works of architect John Wilson Siddall. In 2014, a development application was submitted proposing the demolition of the church. This prompted a study by Heritage Preservation Services, which recommended designating the church under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. The report went to the Toronto Preservation Board which recommended that City Council include the property on the Heritage Register and designated the property under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. The development never proceeded, and consideration of the report to include and designate the church was deferred indefinitely by the Toronto and East York Community Council.
