The Wychwood Park Mission of Bloor Street Presbyterian Church acquired lot at the corner of St. Clair Avenue West and Vaughan Road in 1903, and demolished the existing modest church. The current building was completed in two phases - in 1911 facing Vaughan Road, and 1929 facing onto St. Clair Avenue. The property became a United Church in 1925, and was eventually acquired for the Roman Catholic congregation of St. Alphonsus, which has since altered the structures for its church and rectory.
In September 2007 it was recommended by the Director of Policy and Research in Toronto's City Planning Division that City Council include nine propertiesidentified as part of the St. Clair Avenue West Church Survey on the City of Toronto Inventory of Heritage Properties. The recommendation was adopted on 15 January 2008 by the Toronto and East York Community Council, and was adopted by City Council on 29 January 2008.
