This building was first proposed in the late 1990's, when the City of Toronto developed a plan to revitalize this area and to create Dundas Square. The land on which the building sits was expropriated by the city, and the site cleared. Construction began, but was delayed repeatedly. The hoarding surrounding the site became almost legendary because it sat there for so long. The building finally received its first tenants in late 2007, although work on both the exterior and interior continued into 2008.
During construction and planning, it was known as Metropolis, after that for some time it was named Toronto Life Square after Toronto Life Magazine purchased naming rights, but by late 2009 was known as 10 Dundas East.
