This building was proposed to be constructed by Ryerson University, and the announced architect was Santiago Calatrava. For reasons which are unclear, Calatrava withdrew from the project. Residents of the nearby Merchandise Building complained about the tower component of the building. A new proposal eliminated the tower element of the building, and was constructed.
