This building was constructed from 1989 to 1991, and archives staff occupied the building in June 1991. It originally housed the archives of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. The opening ceremony for the building was in January 1992. In 1998, with the merger of the former cities that made up the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto into the new City of Toronto, the former City of Toronto Archives moved into this facility, and it was renamed appropriately.
