The Manhattan Apartments was completed in three phases from 1909 to 1911 when James Grand Curry and his wife, Mary Jane Purdon converted an existing detached 19th-century house into an apartment complex through a series of additions. It includes 628-634 Church Street and 68 and 70 Charles Street East and was designed by James Arthur Harvey in the Edwardian Style. The two-story apartment building is almost symmetrical and has a flat roof with extended eaves supported on oversized brackets. There is one stepped parapet above the Jarvis Street entrance. The basement level is treated differently with a stone pattern rather than brick, in a nod to the Italian Palazzo style. There are three entrances. The entrance for 628-632 Church Street has a portico topped with a pediment supported by coupled classical columns. On top of the portico is a balcony with balusters. The entrance for 70 Charles Street East and is similar to the first but doesn't have a portico. Instead, the door is simply topped with a pediment and has classical columns to its side. A balcony is also on top. The entrance for 68 Charles Street East has a portico with classical columns that support a balcony with a  baluster. Some windows are bayed with stone surrounds. Others have simple stone lintels, some ornamented with keystones.

In 2014 a plan to build a condominium called The Charles at Church on the corner of Charles and Church was approved. Specifically on the heritage sites of 68 and 70 Charles and 628-638 Church. The plan is to build a 57-story mixed-use condo by the developer Aspen Ridge Homes and The Sud Group Companies. The building's facade will be preserved and converted into either commercial space or residential space and incorporated into the base of the tower.
