This structure incorporates three heritage buildings from the Gooderham and Worts Complex: Tank Houses 4, 9, and 10, or Buildings 48, 49 and 50. These buildings were constructed in 1887 and 1888. The theatre serves as the Theatre School for George Brown College and as the main theatre for the Soulpepper Theatre Company.

The building was a Design Excellence Award from the Ontario Association of Architects in 2007.
