Name & Location:
Thomas Thompson Building
185 King Street East
Toronto
Moss Park
Notes:
This building was altered in 1880, when a Second Empire roof was added to the original Georgian structure. This property's contribution lies in the structure's age (1833); its historic association with former Mayor George Monro; its role in the economic intensification of the District in the mid-to-late 19th century; and its position within the oldest row of buildings currently standing in Toronto. The structure also contributes to the physical character of the District through its tripartite design, its glazed storefront with a recessed entrance and its mansard roof, attributes which characterize the commercial warehouse typology within the District.
