This building is home to theArQuives (formerly the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives), the largest independent LGBTQ2+ archives in the world, with a focus on Canadian content. Prior to the ArQuives, the building was occupied by the Children's Aid Society of Toronto.
The property was listed on the City of Toronto Inventory of Heritage Properties in 2002, and was designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act in 2007. Interior and exterior upgrades took place before the CLGA officially opened in the building in 2009, including restoration of the front porch and adaptation for barrier-free access. In December 2016, City Council voted to fund renovations to the building that would make it accessible, including adding ramps, an elevator, and larger bathroom spaces.
