Completed in 1847, designed by Henry Bowyer Lane; the same architect responsible for Little Trinity Church on King Street East. Ten years later in 1857, a new sunday school was completed, designed by William Hay. In 1970, revised plans for the Eaton's Centre development were released, putting Holy Trinity Church at risk of demolition. As a result, the church formed a committee to negotiate with the developer, and even released a counter-proposal involving retention of the church and construction of a pedestrian square. Eventually, an agreement was reached to save the church (plus two adjacent historic buildings) and to construct the square. The church has a long history of community organizing and social justice, which was solidified with the appointment of Rev. James Fisk in 1962. Of note, during the early 1970s, the Community Homophile Association of Toronto held their first meetings and dances at Holy Trinity. In 1977, a fire damaged the roof and south windows, prompting major restoration work.
