This building is the headquarters of the Torstar Corporation and The Toronto Star. The newspaper's print presses were located within between 1971 and 1992 when operations moved to The Star's new Press Centre at the present-day intersection of Highways 400 and 407 in Vaughan, Ontario.

A major development on the site by Pinnacle International has recently commenced as of July 2021. This will include recladding and extending the height of the existing Toronto Star Building and incorporating it into a new complex of mixed-use towers, including the 95-story Sky Tower, which is poised to be the tallest residential building in Canada. Hariri Pontarini Architects are responsible for the project's structural design.
