Notes:
The first house at 39 Mill Cove was built in 1962 but was demolished in 2019 to make way for the current house. The new building is an example of modern architecture in the Kingsway. The right side of the house imitates a steel shipping container with a mono-pitched roof. This section is also reminiscent of the Victory Houses that once filled Mill Cove, one of which still stands directly to number 39’s north. The left wing applies a massive timber frame, which leaves space for a small balcony and shading for the external walls extensively made of glass. Against the dark grey steel panels, the brown timber offers the building a natural feeling and a warm tone. This design exemplifies the asymmetry and geometry of neo-modernist residential architecture, which is opposed to the suburban Prairie-style-esque parallel horizontal lines of the previous house that existed on this lot.
