In November 2021, the Lamb Development Corporation proposed demolition of 778-788 King Street West (including 786 King Street West) as part of a 17-storey condominium redevelopment.
786 King Street West is a 3 storey plus basement industrial building dating to 1908/1909. 786 King Street West was first home to I. D. Dewar & Sons (chemists) and the Toronto Wire, Nail, & Tack Company. 786 King Street West was later associated with Hughes & Company, a cloth finishing company. 786 King Street West presently houses StartWell — a meeting and office venue. The exterior of 786 King Street West has been painted black, which is obscuring underlying architectural details.
