In 2019, Makow Architects Associates Ltd. posted plans on their website for a new redevelopment - the Annex Lofts - at the northeast corner of Bathurst Street and Bridgman Avenue. This redevelopment may include 1191 Bathurst Street. As 1191 Bathurst Street does not presently have heritage status, it should be considered at increased risk of demolition.
However, of additional note is that as of early August 2021, no formal redevelopment application has been made available in the City of Toronto Application Information Centre. This application is expected to occur in the future.
This building has historically been home to multiple companies in operation at the same time. Early occupants of the building include leather manufacturers, piano manufacturers, shoe manufacturers, storefront designers/manufacturers, and thread mills.
By the 1930s, this building also housed the Hillcrest Bowling Association alongside leather-related manufacturers.
This property may have previously been known as 1189-1191 Bathurst Street. It is presently known as 1191 Bathurst Street.
This building sits on the former site of the Seaton Village School (aka Seaton School), which was in operation during the late 19th century.
Further research is required to discern the precise year of construction of 1191 Bathurst Street. It likely dates to the late 1900s or 1910s.
