9 Pembroke Street was constructed in 1877/1878 and was first home to Robert J. Barber. Robert J. Barber was a partner of Barber & Company - a manufacturers' agents firm based at 7 Jordan Street. The other partners of the firm were J. H. Davis and R. Burkholder. Davis and Burkholder resided in Hamilton.
As of 1897, 9 Pembroke Street served as the Annex of the College of Music. 9 Pembroke Street was used by the vocal department of the college during this period in time.
9 Pembroke Street suffered a fire in 1948, which was theorized to have been caused by a cigarette.
9 Pembroke Street is presently (as of 2021) used as rental apartments.
