In 1930, 556 Dundas Street West was the site of L. Hootnick - a cleaning and pressing business owned by Louis Hootnick. Louis Hootnick was born in Odessa, Russia and was married to Fayga Handler. The Hootnicks were Jewish. The family also owned a grocery store at 1126 College Street, where their residence was. Louis Hootnick died in Toronto in 1930.

 

Following the death of Louis Hootnick in 1930, 556 Dundas Street West became the site of the New York Pressing Company as of 1931.

 

Golberg & Son - a furrier business owned by Samuel Goldberg - may have also been based in the building at this point in time.
