In 1987, 3,000 square meters of land was bought for $680,000.00 dollars. The land is located on Northdale street in an affluent community of North York in Toronto.

In 1992 after consulting with many architectural companies, the design of the Armenian architect Haig Tovmassian from the Johnson Architects architectural office was eventually assigned to the LATKA construction company for a 1,250,000.00 Canadian dollar contract.

According to the project, the plan was designed for the church area to host 500 parishioners, and a main reception area that could host 300 guests with a fully equipped kitchen. Adjacent to the church will be a 2 story dwelling for the pastor and finally a parking lot with 100 spaces..

On October 22, 1982, the foundation stone was laid. On November 21, 1993 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the newly built church had its cornerstone blessing ceremony.

Today, the main altar of the church, the hall, the stained glass windows, the statues, the pewters and various sacred items bear the names of the benefactors.

On April 24 2002, the Memorial Monument in memory of 1.5 million martyrs of the Armenian Genocide was unveiled. The monument stands at a five-meter-high mahogany granite cross-stone “Khatchkar” and a basalt black stone carved eagle. This magnificent monument was designed by renowned architect Mr. Hagop Janbazian. This monument symbolizes:

  • The Church - As a gift and a sacrament of our Christian faith
  • The Armenian Alphabet  - As a gift and symbol of our national identity, the homeland and the eternity of all Armenians
  • April Memorial - As an offering and a model of Christian faith and loyalty of Armenians to Christianity, the sacrifice of the Armenian nation for the altar of the history of the World.
