30 Hurndale, in the Playter Estates neighbourhood, was built around 1912 for George Flint, father of Irene Barchard and father-in-law of Bert Wemp. Elected Mayor in 1929, Wemp is most famous for laying the groundwork for Toronto’s major mid-century road extensions: Mount Pleasant, Dundas, Eastern, University and Avenue Road can all be traced to his brief mayoralty.
