Humber Bay Yacht Club was formed in 1955 and purchased their property on the west bank of the Humber river from Bill Hicks' Boat Livery. For a clubhouse, the yacht club used the existing building on site built around 1874 by the Humber Bay Stone Company who operated on the location till the early 1890's. In 1911, the property was purchased by Henry (Harry) Cornish who converted the building into The Wanita Tea Rooms, reputedly a clandestine drinking establishement during the prohibition years. Bill Hicks then bought the property in 1925 to open his Boat Livery. Sadly this 92 year-old building was destroyed by fire in 1966 while under ownership of the yacht club who then subsequently built the modern building that stands today.
