St. Martin-in-the-Fields was originally founded in 1890, located in a home on Franklin Avenue, later moving to a frame building on Perth Avenue. In 1912, a fire destroyed the Perth Avenue church and the parish moved to the present location. Construction of the basement parish hall began in 1914. The upper church was completed on May 5, 1922 - designed by Clarence Thetford. The sanctuary features hand-carved oak imported from Belgium. ERA Architects have undertaken a number of preservation projects on the church, including stained-glass restoration and construction of a basement addition.
