Named in honour of St. Anthony of Padua, the school officially opened its doors on July 1, 1907. It was built to serve as both church and school. At the time, it could be found at Hamburg Avenue and Shirley Street, known today as Gladstone Avenue and Shanly Street. The Toronto Separate School Board (today the Toronto Catholic District School Board) purchased the property from the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation in 1910. Significant growth in the neighbourhood with the arrival of new immigrant groups forced the construction of an addition, built in the early 1930s. About 20 years later, a new building was constructed on Gladstone Avenue. A newly renovated and expanded facility opened in the spring of 2006.
