Originally built in 1887-88, designed by J.A. Fowler. Current school building was completed in 1915-16, designed by C.H. Bishop; addition in 1938 by C.E. Cyril Dyson.
In an issue of The Toronto Daily Start (Saturday, May 7, 1938), the addition was escribed as follows: The school is built to suit the revisited course of study, More emphasis is put on health, art, music, and these subjects are to be aided by sutable rooms. Physical training is provided for in the basement where there is a room 30 by 55 ft. in size. This room is so made that it can be used independently of the school, having its own toilet and a little kitchenette where refreshments may be prepared.
Visual education, lessions by lantern slides or movie machines, can be given in this large room to several classes at once. School architect C.E. Dyson has arranged also to use the roof of the kindergarten for a play space. It will be 30 by 67 ft., and will have a special mastic floor. It will be much used by the junior classes who may there play and do their p.t. in the sunshine.
The library 12 by 34 is to be provided, with alcoves for quet reading. The department of education has been stressing library accomodation of late.
There is more elasticity in the new curriculum and therefore the new school will have moveable furniture; no more nailing of desks down to the floor.
