Originally Mary Street School, Kimberley Junior Public School is situated at the corner of Main and Swanwick Streets in East Toronto. It currently shares a space with Beaches Alternative school (BAS). The first building in the school's history opened in 1882 on Mary Street (now Kimberley Street) north of the current school. This school, Mary Street School, was a wooden, four-room structure. Increased population in the area led to the construction of a larger two-storey school building in 1897, while some classes were still held in the original building. In 1903, East Toronto High School (now Malvern Collegiate Institute) moved into the 1882 building. This original building is believed to have been demolished in 1907 after the high school moved to their own building. In 1908, the school's name changed to Kimberley Junior Public School. Additions in 1910 were likely done by Charles H. Bishop.

The current school building was constructed in 1964, fronting onto Swanwick Avenue, and opened to students in September 1965. October 1997 marked the school's centennial celebration. Architectural firm Taylor Smyth completed a library addition to the building.
