The original Silverthorn Junior Public School was likely opened sometime during the 1920s. This is based on the fact that the architect David Randall Franklin made additions to the school in 1928 and 1930. After a fire at Silverthorn Junior Public School in 1957, students had to be housed at neighbouring schools. In 1969, Kane Senior Public School in opened, which later changed its name to Kane Middle School in the early 1990s. This school was designed by John B. Parkin Associates, Architects & Engineers. The school name would change once more when Silverthorn Junior School closed in 2011 and amalgamated with Kane Middle School and Silverthorn Junior Public School was closed. To pay homage to the community school that survived a major fire and saw thousands of students come through its doors for more than 90-plus years, the school was renamed Silverthorn Community School.
