1888: A previous version of the school, Gladstone Avenue School, opened with 8 classrooms and 2 kindergartens. 1925: A 3-storey building constructed. Name changed to Alexander Muir, the school's first principal and composer of "The Maple Leaf Forever." 1954: Senior school addition that began in 1952 was completed. This addition/renovation was designed by Page & Steele Architects. 1961: Addition started in 1959 was completed and formally opened. This addition was designed by Fisher, Tedman and Fisher architects. General contractor was Gels Generation Contractors Limited. 1982: School was combined with Gladstone Avenue SS 2009: The Grove Community School opened on the third floor of the building. The Grove is an public, elementary school focused on environmental education, community activism, and social justice.
