AT RISK INFORMATION
At risk status:
This building is at risk

Info:

After ceasing operations at Postal Station C in autumn of 2020, Canada Post put this building up for sale and bidding closed on July 24, 2021. As of mid August 2021, no sale has been confirmed.

The West Queen West community, MP for Davenport Julie Dzerowicz, and Toronto city councillor for Davenport Ana Bailão have called for the heritage property to remain public and are urging that community consultation on its fate take place. Dispite these advocasy efforts, the sale process has thus far gone uninterupted.

BUILDING INFORMATION
Name & Location
Postal Station C
1117 Queen Street West
Little Portugal, Toronto

OTHER IDENTIFICATION
Notes:

One of Toronto's oldest purpose-built post offices, Postal Station C was designed in 1902 by Samuel George Curry. Its 118 years of operation – by Canada Post and Royal Mail Canada before them – ceased when the station closed in autumn of 2020. Canada Post since put the West Queen West landmark up for sale, with bids on the property having closed in late July 2021.

1117 Queen Street West is merely heritage listed by the City, not designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. It remains unclear how much, if any, of its structure would be conserved if the site was privately developed. Planning for a potential Heritage Conservation District encompassing Queen Street West between Bathurst and Dufferin streets has been underway since 2015.
