1927: Runnymede High School building, is complete, officially opened in November. School website lists Charles Wellington Smith as architect, although the Biographical Dictionary of Architects in Canada 1800-1950 names Burden & Gouinlock as archtiect. The 3-storey building consisted of 8 classrooms, 3 sciences labs, auditorium, gymnasium, library, cafeteria, and locker area. There were separate entrances to the gymnasium for girls and boys. The lower floor (basement) contained the cafeteria, gym, and locker area. The first floor contained the office, 4 classrooms, and the auditorium. The auditorium was over the gymnasium and had stained glass windows. The second floor consisted of 3 science rooms over the auditorium, a library, and four classrooms. 1928-30: School designated a collegiate institute. This is likely when it began to be referred to as Runnymede Collegiate Institute. 12 additional classrooms were built (8 at the north end of the building, 4 at the south end) as well as a smaller gymnasium for girls. 1957-58: Major addition with a larger cafeteria, swimming pool, larger auditorium (seating for 500), offices, 2 classrooms, and music room. 1966: Large gymnasium, 16 classrooms/labs, and cafeteria extension. 2013: Building consists of 30 classrooms, pool, two gyms, comber lab, cafeteria and drama studio.
