The Imperial Pub was founded as the Imperial Hotel by Jack Newman in 1944. Since then, the establishment's nine hotel rooms located on its second floor have been replaced by a library-themed bar much beloved by Ryerson University students in addition to the ground floor bar. Today, the Imperial is operated by Newman's son and grandsons.
