BUILDING INFORMATION
Name & Location:
Latin American Food Court
214 Augusta Avenue
Toronto
Kensington-Chinatown
Year Completed:
Likely 1875, with later storefront additions
OTHER IDENTIFICATION
Notes:

214 Augusta Avenue was originally known as 68 Grosvenor Avenue. Other previous addresses include 72 Grosvenor Avenue, 72 Augusta Avenue, and the present-day address 214 Augusta Avenue.

214 Augusta Avenue was likely constructed in 1875 and has later storefront additions. It is possible the building has been reconstructed since 1875, although this requires further research to verify.

The first occupant of the property was James Atcheson - a carpenter by trade. As of 1884, John A. Atcheson also resided at the property. John A. Atcheson owned J. A. Atcheson & Company - a novelty wood turning works company with its office at 8 Adelaide Street East and factory at 59-63 Adelaide Street West.  Please note that the family surname is also spelled Acheson and Atchison in various historical sources.

As of 1950, 214 Augusta Avenue was still in use as a solely residential property - then the residence of Hyman Lavine.

214 Augusta Avenue presently (July 2021) contains a mix of Latin American restaurants in its ground floor space.
