356-358 Huron Street was a 1.5 storey semi-detached, Second Empire style Workers Cottage located on the west side of Huron Street between Harbord Street and Glen Morris Street in the Huron-Sussex neighbourhood of Toronto. The property was constructed in 1884/1885 and demolished in 2021/2022. The property was part of the Huron-Sussex Area of Special Identity. The Huron-Sussex Area of Special Identity is part of the City of Toronto Official Plan, but is distinct from a Heritage Conservation District. 

 

The property was originally a wooden structure and was converted to a brick structure (on primary elevation) post-construction.

 

356 Huron Street is privately owned; whereas 358 Huron Street is owned by the University of Toronto. 358 Huron Street has been vacant for several years.  

 

356-358 Huron Street, Toronto has been undergoing structural shifting for many years. Steps have allegedly been taken to mitigate this structural shifting. 

 

As of July 2021, 356 Huron Street was demolished. An engineer's report dated 21 July 2021 states that: "The existing demolition work at 356 Huron Street has significantly decreased the stability of 358 Huron Street to the point that demolition of the structure at 358 Huron Street is required."

358 Huron Street:  J. M. Reade (Bookkeeper)
